Fire extinguishers need to work straight away when needed, so it is vital they are regularly checked and serviced. Fire extinguishers are pressurised vessels that can burst when corroded or damaged and have been known to cause serious injury and even death.
The Regulatory Fire Reform (Fire Safety Order) 2005 states that fire fighting equipment “must be subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.”
With Class A fire risks (paper, wood, textiles etc.) being present in most buildings, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 stipulates that fire extinguishers are compulsory in all premises.
The Order states that a minimum of two Class A fire extinguishers per floor be clearly accessible all of the time.
The number of extinguishers required varies. Unity Fire Extinguishers can determine the amount needed to comply with the Order and to provide adequate fire protection for the building.
